Description
Isotroin is Cipla's branded oral isotretinoin (13-cis-retinoic acid) — the most effective treatment for severe, nodulocystic, and recalcitrant acne. It reduces sebum production by up to 90%, normalises keratinisation, and has anti-inflammatory and anti-bacterial effects. The only acne drug that can induce long-term remission.

- Severe nodulocystic acne
- Recalcitrant acne unresponsive to conventional therapy
- Acne with scarring tendency
Dosage
0.5–1 mg/kg/day for 16–24 weeks. Cumulative dose target: 120–150 mg/kg. Take with fatty food for absorption.

Side Effects

Warnings
- Pregnancy Category X — ABSOLUTE contraindication (teratogenic)
- Mandatory pregnancy test before and during treatment
- Monthly blood tests (CBC, LFT, lipid panel) required
- Avoid blood donation during and 1 month after treatment
- Avoid vitamin A supplements
- Avoid waxing and laser procedures during treatment
