Description

Mycept is Panacea Biotec's branded mycophenolate mofetil (MMF) — an immunosuppressant that inhibits inosine monophosphate dehydrogenase, selectively suppressing T and B lymphocyte proliferation. Used in dermatology as a steroid-sparing agent for pemphigus, severe eczema, and lupus.

Dosage

1–1.5g twice daily (total 2–3g/day). Onset of action 4–8 weeks.

Side Effects

  • GI upset (diarrhoea, nausea — common)
  • Bone marrow suppression
  • Increased infection risk
  • Progressive multifocal leukoencephalopathy (rare)

Warnings

  • Pregnancy Category D — teratogenic
  • Regular CBC monitoring mandatory
  • GI side effects common — may need dose adjustment
  • Avoid live vaccines
  • Increased risk of lymphoma (long-term)
