Indications

  • Severe nodulocystic acne
  • Recalcitrant acne
  • Acne with scarring tendency
  • Low-dose maintenance for adult acne

Dosage

0.5–1 mg/kg/day for 16–24 weeks. Low-dose (10–20 mg/day) for adult acne maintenance. Take with food.

Warnings

  • Pregnancy Category X — teratogenic
  • Monthly blood monitoring mandatory
  • Two forms of contraception required in women
  • Avoid concurrent tetracyclines (pseudotumor cerebri risk)
  • Avoid vitamin A supplements
